2 short essays compare/contrast and critical

Using at least two of the authors or poets we’ve read to date, discuss specific contrasts (differences) and/or comparisons (similarities) in their work in terms of their meaning. You have the option to focus on differences in the work, similarities in the two works, or both. Strive to make connections between the work or express their differences in a new way. Push yourself beyond basic summaries of the work you select. How is the subject, style or theme similarly, or differently, addressed?Your essay should be no less than 600 words. 1. A critical essay reviews another work, in this case a work of literature. The key will be to analyze, or examine closely, the positive and negative aspects of the work. Any observations or claims about the work must be supported with evidence from the work itself.

  • You do not use first person (“I”) in a critical essay. It is much easier to focus on a single aspect of a work rather than an entire work.
  • You are allowed to use relevant background or historical information to show the importance of the work and the reason for your conclusions.
